Welcome to the Boston Economic ClubCelebrating over ninety years of rich history, the Boston Economic Club (BEC), established in 1932, is a non-partisan membership organization dedicated to promoting and fostering substantive, engaging, and well-informed dialogue on topics involving economics, finance, public policy, and tech disruption. Following the New England tradition of discussion and debate, the history of economic clubs in Boston dates back to the early 19th century. Such clubs provided a forum for business leaders, economists, and other interested citizens to discuss economic issues while promoting economic education and understanding among the public. BEC’s secondary purpose is the development of friendships and the sharing of diverse perspectives. Professional backgrounds of members vary from asset management, finance, banking, government, healthcare, technology, academia, and law, to other economic sectors. Club luncheon meetings are held approximately twice a month, usually at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. All luncheon content is “off the record” unless the speaker requests otherwise.
| BEC speakers are selected from the private, public and academic sector. Our more recent, preeminent speakers include Janet Yellen, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury; Federal Reserve regional presidents Neel Kashkari. Loretta Mester, and past Boston Fed president, Eric Rosengren; economists Lawrence Summers, Jason Furman, and Stephanie Kelton; and business leaders, Jamie Dimon of J.P. Morgan and Stephane Bancel of Moderna. Diverse topics covered differ by month, with a consistent emphasis on relevance. Membership year runs from September to early June.
